…calls herself a “smell deejay”– her work experiments with performance, scent, score and movement. All of the performative smells are homemade, all natural, small batch, and made by Kellen in her Chicago apartment’s kitchen. Kellen apprenticed under the perfumer Michelle Wilby-Freisenhahn of Auburnia fragrance in 2013. In 2014, she presented a conceptual perfume titled Wave at Hubbard Street Dance Company’s Bold Moves for Bold Women, which showcased the perfume and its influences of Hubbard Street’s Spring Show choreography. Other recent works include directing, writing and producing Game Night, workshopped last at Prop Theater’s Rhinoceros Festival in Chicago in 2014; performance in Bryan Saner’s Chair Migration at Links Hall (Chicago); collaboratively co-directing Contemplative Loop by Alex Borgen; & performance and scent design for Metal Skeletons and Losts Lands by Penelope Hearne. Kellen has presented work at Chicago Home Theater Festival, Hyde Park Dacha, Redmoon Theater, and First Floor Theater.
