Michael Chad St. John is a writer, sculptor, and performer from Battle Creek, Michigan—the Cereal Capital of the World. He received his MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts and Media from Columbia College Chicago in 2012. His work focuses on the relationships between body, labor, food, and personal narrative. Family lineage and its ties to the cereal industry of his hometown drive his latest investigations. He has also been told that his work is quite funny—in all senses of the word.
His initiation into The Sin Eaters is chronicled below…
Michael attempts the Challenger Burger at Rudy’s Bar and Grill in Chicago.

Three and three-quarter pounds. I’m at the table of the Burger Challenger at Rudy’s in downtown Chicago. Bloated. Beef. Intestines like split kielbasa casings. Fat Kid. Fuck-a-diddy. You’re at the finish line, steaming skillet branding the table, fat coagulating, and you say, Damn. Can’t chew. Can’t take one more. Breathe. Digest. Breathe. Stretch the stomach lining. Rip the skin from the roof of the mouth. Pant. Belch. Wave the white cloth in rapture and defeat.
